For me this made the difference from being unable to work for 20 years because of chronic pain and fatigue to becoming a therapist again.

This clinic is now closed. If you'd like more information about the Alpha-Stim please go to www.themicrocurrentsite.co.uk
Microcurrent therapy is safe, gentle, non-invasive, and no side effects as you can get from medication. The Alpha-Stim AID has been presented to the MIB committee of NICE with a planned approval of the device in January 2021. This shows that NICE considers the AID as a medical device that has proven good results and it is already being used is some areas by the NHS.
I have been using my own device since 2009. I use the Alpha-Stim regularly but others only need to use it for a short time to reduce pain, improve sleep and feel calmer.
The first question I asked before I started to use it was Is it safe? Yes, the Alpha-Stim is FDA cleared for the relief of depression, anxiety, insomnia and pain. (The FDA is the Food and Drug Administration in the USA similar to NICE in the UK, it checks out all the research on the device and tests how effective it is before approving it for use). NHS England have recently approved it and a UK research study about the Alpha-Stim has been published by Prof R. Morris at the NHS Improving Access to Psychological Interventions (IAPT) service. NICE is in the process of assessing the device for use in the NHS, we're hoping this will happen in 2022.
The next question I asked was How does it work? For more details see the links below. A brief description is: Our bodies are full of nerves and cells communicating with electric currents. The Alpha-Stim produces tiny microcurrents similar to the currents in our body. The ear-clips help to produce alpha-waves which are the calm and alert feelings and help to increase the time in deep sleep. Sometimes when there is pain etc. the area does not work properly causing a block, the microcurrents help to clear the block and promote healing.
The Alpha-Stim has helped over 10 million people worldwide. The conditions it helps include: Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, Insomnia, Arthritis, Back pain, TMD (jaw pain), Headaches, Accident injuries and Stress. I trained with Dr Kirsch the inventor and Dr Jeff Marksberry to better understand how to use the Alpha-Stim.

There are 3 devices available, the M, AID and PainMaster.
I have found that it is a combination of changes that can make the best improvements to our health. We are all unique and I have often thought we have to be good detectives to find out what will help.
Whether its Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, Back pain, Stress or Past injuries - my Occupational Therapy training and 18 years of research could help you regain your quality of life.
I keep up-to-date with the best therapies. For example, in January 2017 I did a course by Dr Jonathan Kuttner a Pain Consultant, in trigger point release and understanding how to reduce the effects of 'Central Sensitsation'. For example in a recent talk by Dr Kuttner he said if you can get 30-50% pain reduction from a medication you're one of the lucky ones. So we need to look for more ways to improve our lives. One way is to gain more knowledge about what Central sensitisation is? Then how to stop it. This amplification of pain messages can happens to anyone who has been in chronic pain for more than 3 months. The nerves that carry pain messages can be altered and sometimes in unexpected ways. This doesn't mean the pain is all in our brain (imagined), the nerves are misbehaving but we can do something to reduce the impact of these nerve messages. See my page 'What is pain' for more on this. In 2013 I attended a Masterclass in Fatigue Management to enhance my skills in helping people increase their energy levels. At a conference in 2014 I learnt new ideas on how changing your posture can stop pain.
